My Show on Oprah’s OWN

I did something today that pushed my usually risk averse self off a bit of a faith-testing cliff. I submitted an audition video for a long-shot slot to host a talk show on Oprah’s new network. It’s only about a minute and a half long (and now iPhone and iPad compatible!).

Here’s the link:

Most of the other candidates submitted their auditions a week before I did, so I’m far behind. I’d love to have your help and your vote.

But please don’t ask me to tell you the answer to the question at the end of the video. Well, unless you vote for me and I win. Then you’ll be one of the first to know.

Nadal and Federer – Both Champions at Wimbledon

Is it just me or do others feel a bit sad about Federer’s loss at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club? Heck, imagine how Federer feels…

Wimbledon . Roger Federer.

If you like tennis, then you know that those two go hand in hand. When we hear the name of that grass court Grand Slam event, we immediately picture him . The king. The champion. Just like we used to do with Pete Sampras. Maybe even Bjorn Borg. Or, yes, John McEnroe. It’s quite a list. As of last night, however, another name has been added to the list of tennis greats.

Rafael Nadal.

Rafa Nadal

In one of the closest, most exciting tennis matches of all time, Nadal managed to win just a few more points to be declared the official winner of the 2008 Men’s Final at Wimbledon.

But …

Interview with Co-Author of “Making Up With Mom” on Soapbox Radio

Accomplished author, food critic, and mother of three, Julie Halpert was my guest on Soapbox Radio – recorded live today.

Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she’s been a journalist for twenty years with articles in the New York Times , Newsweek , the Washington Post and many other publications. Halpert is currently teaching a course on environmental journalism at her alma mater, the University of Michigan (go blue!).

What’s she doing now? She’s touring the country to talk about her new book (which she co-authored with Deborah Carr, Ph.D.) and she made a stop on the Soapbox .

Can Mothers and Daughters Get Along Better?

I’m happy to say that at least one author believes they can. In fact, she’s written a book about it

Julie Halpert, co-author of the book entitled, “Making Up With Mom” was my guest on Soapbox Radio on Tuesday, June 24.

Here’s a video of one of her recent interviews:

Blogger Featured in ABC News Piece and on Radio

Updated 6.26.08:

Jeremy Biser, author of several blogs including Discovering Dad , Struck in Traffic , Thoughts on Quotes and Lead Inspectors joined me on Tuesday, June 17 on Soapbox Radio . If you follow Jeremy on his Discovering Dad blog (which, by the way was recently featured in this ABC News piece ), you know about his beautiful new baby girl, Caitlin, born premature and now adapting well (thank goodness!) to home life. Download the podcast here to listen as Jeremy talks about her and many other topics.

Here’s the promo we used before the show:

He is One Busy Dad

Technical difficulties.

That’s what a couple hundred people encountered the last time they tuned in to the podcast on Soapbox Radio .

That’s when, on Soapbox Radio’s premier podcast , I was lucky enough to interview BusyDad Jim , author of the Busy Dad Blog and BusyDad Tales . Okay, granted, it doesn’t quite compare to this interview , but it was fun! Trouble is … about 99% of the listeners couldn’t hear a thing.

It was a mess, but we look back on it and laugh because – here’s the good news – he agreed to another interview!

I love second chances. I give them to my kids all the time. So, let’s just consider the first podcast a dry run and the second show the real thing. Download either one (or both!) by clicking here .

A Big Announcement from a Busy Dad

If you’ve read the terrific blogs, Busy Dad Blog and BusyDad Tales , you’ll understand why I express such excitement about his guest spot on my new podcast. Here’s the promo video for the show, Soapbox Radio .

Want to know what that big announcement was? You’ll have to listen to the show!

Announcing Soapbox Radio!

Soapbox Radio

We here at Soapbox Mom are excited about the latest addition to the site – a podcast called Soapbox Radio . It’s a show for moms, dads, men, women, and kids about anything and everything. I kicked off the show by highlighting bloggers, particularly those whom I know relatively well and think are just so amazing that I want the world to hear about them. I’ll have show notes and links after the shows as well as previews about upcoming shows right here on Soapbox Mom and also on my Soapbox Radio site .

I’m especially excited to say that on Tuesday, May 13 I was joined by my first guest, BD (or Jim) author of the Busy Dad Blog and BusyDad Tales – the comic (illustrated by Jim’s childhood friend, Jeff Day). Jim is a tremendously talented guy with an adorable young son, whom he fondly refers to as Fury. You can see Jim and Fury in the entertaining videos on his site and read all about them on both sites.
